[00:00:00] Ego and Vice, episode 132

[00:00:03] You've got a real attitude problem McFly, you're a slacker!

[00:00:30] They still say that?

[00:01:00] Hey, this is Mike, this is Ego and Vice, this is episode 132. Thank you so much for coming back.

[00:01:15] Thank you so much for the support. Ego and Vice has been going for 7 and a half years now, about halfway through season 7 already.

[00:01:23] Is that crazy? It's crazy. Where does the time go?

[00:01:26] And it has no end, no stopping, I don't see it stopping.

[00:01:31] I may take a summer break though, I may take some time off.

[00:01:35] I just bought a brand new bike, a mountain bike, anyway.

[00:01:39] It's a hybrid bike and now that snowboarding season is over I really need to switch my obsessions.

[00:01:46] So I'm going to jump on the brand new bike.

[00:01:49] But it's been really cold so it's kind of a bummer.

[00:01:52] There's no snow in the winter and in the spring there's no sun.

[00:01:55] Fuck's going on.

[00:01:56] Anyway, enough about me.

[00:01:58] Oh, one thing I do want to say is last week a new Goat song, a new Goat single off the upcoming Goat record, the new Goat record,

[00:02:08] Gloat, which should drop in May, TBA, was released. It's called Into the Wild.

[00:02:15] It's a song about how we use our cell phones too much.

[00:02:20] Well, social media, just devices, how we just get brainwashed and we're so tied to them.

[00:02:27] It's almost like a magnet. It's stuck in your hand, it's stuck in your head.

[00:02:30] First thing you do in the morning is check your phone.

[00:02:32] Last thing you do at night is check your phone.

[00:02:35] And it's about just how do we get away from it?

[00:02:39] I don't know.

[00:02:40] So the song is called Into the Wild.

[00:02:42] You can guess the answer is to build a log cabin in the woods.

[00:02:47] Maybe?

[00:02:48] Cool. Let's get to the episode.

[00:02:50] This week on Ego and Vice, I have a band called Deadwell.

[00:02:55] Mark, Dan, Joe and Cody came into Southwood Studio and we had a great conversation.

[00:03:00] They're a fairly new band but individually they are made up of musicians that have been around the Ottawa music scene for a long time.

[00:03:08] And they were going about their merry business and then they found each other and now Deadwell exists.

[00:03:14] Awesome band.

[00:03:16] Really great music.

[00:03:19] Amazing songwriters and cool dudes.

[00:03:22] Let's play a song.

[00:03:24] This song is called Story of My Life.

[00:03:26] They also have a video for it when we come back.

[00:03:29] Mark, Dan, Joe and Cody sit down in Southwood and we have a great conversation.

[00:03:34] Now I'm repeating myself. Who gives a fuck?

[00:03:36] Alright, this is Deadwell, Story of My Life, Ego and Vice.

[00:04:17] Burning out in empathy

[00:04:26] And I cannot find it

[00:04:31] No, I cannot lie

[00:04:37] And I cannot find it

[00:04:46] What I've been looking for

[00:04:48] In a world this small

[00:04:51] It closes in a little war

[00:04:57] On each new day

[00:05:00] And I can't escape

[00:05:05] And I can't even hide

[00:05:08] Heart like stewigs

[00:05:11] The veins on you and me

[00:05:13] And I don't want your sympathy

[00:05:18] And it's the story of my life

[00:05:21] Like a tightrope on a knife

[00:05:24] Gonna fall and fall and fall away

[00:05:30] Like a mirage that arts my cat

[00:05:35] Until I fall away

[00:05:44] And I cannot find it

[00:05:50] No, I cannot lie

[00:05:55] And I can't even find it

[00:06:04] What I've been looking for

[00:06:07] The distant open door

[00:06:10] The vision ending in war

[00:06:14] It's a gunshot fight

[00:06:17] And it cleans my mind

[00:06:20] Until I should arts my kind

[00:06:23] It's the story of my life

[00:06:26] And I cannot find it

[00:06:30] No, I cannot lie

[00:06:34] It's the story of my life

[00:06:37] And I can't fucking find it

[00:06:44] And I can't even hide

[00:06:47] It's the story of my life

[00:06:50] And I can't even hide

[00:07:14] Joe, Mark, Dan and Cody

[00:07:17] What's going on?

[00:07:18] How you doing?

[00:07:19] I'm doing good

[00:07:20] I'm doing good

[00:07:21] I am...

[00:07:22] Oh, mister

[00:07:23] Hi

[00:07:24] There it is

[00:07:25] I'm doing good

[00:07:26] I was kind of rushed today

[00:07:28] Because I screwed up the scheduling

[00:07:30] So I got to thank you guys for accommodating me

[00:07:33] Because I know earlier in the week he said

[00:07:35] Do you mind if we do 6.30?

[00:07:36] And I was like

[00:07:37] Oh yeah, no problem

[00:07:38] And then I had to like switch it to like 8

[00:07:40] And I was like

[00:07:41] Oh this isn't gonna go well

[00:07:42] As unprofessional as this is

[00:07:44] I try to be as professional as I can

[00:07:46] You know, but it's DIY, right?

[00:07:48] You do your best

[00:07:49] So Dead Well

[00:07:51] I stumbled across you guys a couple months ago

[00:07:54] I think that's when I got in touch with somebody anyway

[00:07:57] Yeah, it was me

[00:07:58] Yeah, right

[00:07:59] And I haven't heard it

[00:08:01] I hadn't heard of you guys

[00:08:02] But I listened to the three songs you had up on

[00:08:05] I think it was Spotify

[00:08:06] And I really liked

[00:08:08] All About You

[00:08:09] Is that what the song is called?

[00:08:10] Yeah, that's the one

[00:08:11] Yeah, super catchy chorus

[00:08:14] But the story of my life

[00:08:15] That's the one you had the video for

[00:08:17] You know, I'm jumping ahead

[00:08:18] Because I'm excited that you're here

[00:08:20] I really wanted to talk to you guys

[00:08:22] Can you guys go into a bit of an origin of

[00:08:26] Who is Dead Well and where did they come from

[00:08:28] And how long have you guys been around

[00:08:29] And let's go

[00:08:31] I could take this one

[00:08:32] So in essence we're a bunch of dad rockers

[00:08:36] That have yet to give up on the dream

[00:08:38] I think that's the best way to put it

[00:08:40] I love it

[00:08:41] Yeah, so we've all been in bands playing music together

[00:08:44] Crossing paths

[00:08:46] What? Over 20 years, right?

[00:08:47] You know, it's got to be over 20 years

[00:08:48] Playing different bands

[00:08:49] Knowing each other through the local music scene in Ottawa

[00:08:53] And then I guess it was Mark's idea

[00:08:55] Mark was trying to put something together

[00:08:57] And then he asked me to sing

[00:08:59] And then I knew Dan

[00:09:00] Dan and I played in a band called The Second Glance for years in Ottawa

[00:09:02] And I said, you know what?

[00:09:03] Get Dan involved in this

[00:09:04] Dan brought in Cody

[00:09:05] And then we all just kind of like jelled together

[00:09:07] And made it happen

[00:09:08] So really it's just up until now

[00:09:11] Really like a recording project

[00:09:13] You know, we just get in the studio

[00:09:14] We write songs

[00:09:15] And we're trying to keep it low-key and chill

[00:09:18] But it's turning out really well

[00:09:19] Like we're all really happy with the product, right?

[00:09:21] So really that's as far as an origin story

[00:09:23] I think that's what it is

[00:09:24] Just kind of naturally came together, man

[00:09:26] From a bunch of people who've been buddies for a long time

[00:09:28] And then

[00:09:29] I think that's

[00:09:30] It's amazing that there's a couple other bands in the city

[00:09:33] Do you guys know the band Class of 91?

[00:09:36] Yeah, I've heard of them, yeah

[00:09:38] Yeah, they're

[00:09:39] Like as you said, like dad rockers

[00:09:41] Where they're like

[00:09:42] They put a band together

[00:09:43] They had like quit for like 20 years

[00:09:45] And then

[00:09:46] A stage in life kind of came around

[00:09:48] Where they're like

[00:09:49] Well, let's try this again

[00:09:50] And now they're playing like all the time

[00:09:51] Super good dudes

[00:09:52] I had a gig with them

[00:09:54] But yeah, I totally respect that

[00:09:56] And I totally get where you're coming from too

[00:09:58] Being someone in my

[00:10:00] We'll say mid-40s

[00:10:01] We'll call that

[00:10:03] But yeah, it's like

[00:10:04] I don't think you really need to give up a dream

[00:10:06] It just never goes away

[00:10:07] Like it's just

[00:10:08] If it's in you, it's in you, right?

[00:10:09] Yeah

[00:10:10] And doesn't matter what stage you're in

[00:10:12] If you still have music in you

[00:10:13] And you want to get it out

[00:10:14] And it's awesome that

[00:10:15] You have friends that play

[00:10:17] All the instruments you need I guess

[00:10:19] How was

[00:10:20] Let's talk about like maybe some

[00:10:23] Like the early days

[00:10:24] Like you said you were in bands

[00:10:26] What was the band called again?

[00:10:27] That was the Second Glance

[00:10:29] Okay

[00:10:30] What about

[00:10:31] What about you guys?

[00:10:32] I was in a band called Full Levity

[00:10:34] Back in 2000 and 2004

[00:10:36] That was kind of my intro into the punk scene

[00:10:39] And then started a career

[00:10:41] And traveled and didn't touch a guitar

[00:10:43] For about 10 years

[00:10:44] And missed it

[00:10:46] Reignited the passion

[00:10:48] I play in a cover band in Ottawa

[00:10:50] Called Gin and Tonic

[00:10:51] And we've done a lot of gigs

[00:10:52] And I still love playing covers

[00:10:55] But I always had the itch to kind of

[00:10:57] You know, write and get creative and stuff

[00:11:00] And I met Joe at work

[00:11:03] And we started talking

[00:11:04] And yeah, that's kind of how the genesis

[00:11:07] Of this band started

[00:11:08] Yeah, I played in a bunch of bands

[00:11:11] Mostly like heavier stuff

[00:11:13] I guess I would say

[00:11:14] I played in a band Collider

[00:11:17] And I had a band called Drill Point

[00:11:19] I played in a band called Nice for Kids

[00:11:22] And I was always a guitar player

[00:11:23] Like I'm kind of a guitar player

[00:11:25] I've always just been like a guitar player

[00:11:27] Who's wanted to be a drummer

[00:11:28] Like a wannabe drummer

[00:11:29] Isn't that the way it works though?

[00:11:30] I think so, right?

[00:11:31] This is kind of a guitar player

[00:11:33] You should see this guy

[00:11:34] He's the best guitar player in the band

[00:11:36] The best guitar player in the band

[00:11:37] He doesn't play, yeah

[00:11:38] And then we're like

[00:11:39] Hey, would you play drums for us?

[00:11:40] And we're like, oh my god

[00:11:41] He's amazing at drums too

[00:11:42] Yes, my dream come true

[00:11:43] I don't even care what it sounds like

[00:11:44] I'm in, I'm down

[00:11:45] And it turned out to be great

[00:11:47] The secret weapon

[00:11:49] I'm the opposite

[00:11:50] I'm the guy with the drum background

[00:11:52] And I don't know why I play drums

[00:11:54] I've been playing drums as long as

[00:11:56] I've been playing guitar

[00:11:57] But I've never played drums in a band

[00:11:58] I've always played guitar in a band

[00:12:00] Guitar and sang

[00:12:01] Exact same for you

[00:12:02] I would love the opportunity

[00:12:03] If it came around

[00:12:04] But I don't know if I'd have the guts

[00:12:05] To like do it

[00:12:06] It's hard

[00:12:07] That first gig will be a little nerve-racking

[00:12:09] It's so different than what I'm used to

[00:12:11] I'm like a shower

[00:12:12] You know people sing in the shower

[00:12:13] I'm like a shower drummer

[00:12:14] But I have a digital kit anyway

[00:12:17] Go on, I apologize

[00:12:18] That's awesome

[00:12:19] And yeah

[00:12:20] Yeah, I mean

[00:12:21] My story

[00:12:22] I'm backwards to Cody

[00:12:23] Like I took music in university

[00:12:26] And I was a percussion major

[00:12:28] And after I graduated from university

[00:12:30] I stopped playing drums

[00:12:31] And I started playing guitar

[00:12:33] And like most of the stuff

[00:12:35] I've done with Joe

[00:12:36] I think has been on

[00:12:37] I guess a little bit on drums

[00:12:38] But mostly it's been guitar and vocals

[00:12:40] And then

[00:12:41] I don't know

[00:12:42] I picked up the bass

[00:12:43] Five or six years ago probably

[00:12:45] And just

[00:12:47] I really liked how it combines

[00:12:49] The rhythmical stuff of drums

[00:12:52] With the melodic stuff

[00:12:53] Because that's what I really missed in drums

[00:12:55] Is not having any kind of melodic

[00:12:57] Input to the song, right?

[00:12:59] So bass was kind of like a happy

[00:13:01] Kind of in-between thing for me

[00:13:03] And I just kind of

[00:13:04] Kind of dug it

[00:13:05] And that's like when Joe asked me to play

[00:13:08] It was on bass

[00:13:09] And it made sense

[00:13:11] Yeah

[00:13:12] Bass is fun though

[00:13:13] Like bass is a really fun instrument

[00:13:14] If you dig into it

[00:13:15] Whenever I go up to the studio

[00:13:16] The last Goat record I did

[00:13:18] I just wrote

[00:13:19] Because I lost my bass player and my drummer

[00:13:20] So I just wrote everything

[00:13:21] And demoed it

[00:13:22] And then I went up to my buddy's studio

[00:13:24] And my favorite part of the whole fucking experience

[00:13:26] Was recording the bass

[00:13:28] You know just writing bass lines

[00:13:29] And bass runs and shit

[00:13:30] I probably did too much bass

[00:13:32] It's a sneaky instrument

[00:13:33] It's easy to do too much

[00:13:34] And it's easy to do too little

[00:13:36] Like aligning the right

[00:13:38] Oh and so key

[00:13:39] It's like foundational to the sound

[00:13:40] It's like the hidden

[00:13:42] It's like I always use the analogy

[00:13:44] Like a good hockey defense

[00:13:46] Invisible

[00:13:47] Yeah you don't notice it

[00:13:48] You don't notice it until it's gone

[00:13:49] And then you're like whoa wait a minute

[00:13:50] That was the foundation

[00:13:51] You know what I mean?

[00:13:52] So yeah

[00:13:53] The only problem is

[00:13:54] Writing and recording a record by yourself

[00:13:56] You don't have anybody to tell you

[00:13:57] It's too much bass

[00:13:58] Oh, Jill will tell you

[00:13:59] Yeah

[00:14:00] Until it's done

[00:14:01] Then it's like oh

[00:14:02] I'm good for the odd comment

[00:14:03] In production as we go

[00:14:04] Once in a while

[00:14:05] That's cool

[00:14:06] So when you guys decided

[00:14:07] To get together

[00:14:08] And you started to jam

[00:14:09] You said it was more of a recording project

[00:14:12] Did you jam all the time?

[00:14:13] Was it

[00:14:14] No

[00:14:15] We've jammed five times maybe now

[00:14:17] Six

[00:14:18] Yeah

[00:14:19] So did you do a lot of stuff like online?

[00:14:22] Yeah

[00:14:23] Kind of

[00:14:24] Pretty much

[00:14:25] So like so okay

[00:14:26] So I played in another band called Kingfisher

[00:14:28] Right?

[00:14:29] So that's kind of

[00:14:30] Yeah I know they were on this

[00:14:31] And I wasn't here at the podcast last time

[00:14:33] Yes

[00:14:34] Yeah

[00:14:35] So I write

[00:14:36] I primarily am one of the chief writers in that band

[00:14:38] And I'm like a songwriter

[00:14:39] It's what I love to do

[00:14:40] So when Mark asked me to play

[00:14:41] I said okay

[00:14:42] I want to do something a little bit different

[00:14:44] So

[00:14:45] Mark says here I got a song

[00:14:47] I got no vocals

[00:14:48] Right?

[00:14:49] And it's already a pre-made song

[00:14:50] And he's like

[00:14:51] I need the main melody and the lyrics

[00:14:52] And I was like okay

[00:14:53] This is a good challenge for a songwriter

[00:14:54] So it's basically put me out of my wheelhouse

[00:14:56] Where I usually am the genesis

[00:14:57] Or the formation of the foundation of a song

[00:14:59] Now I have something that's already pre-written

[00:15:01] Yeah

[00:15:02] And I have to kind of fill in the pieces

[00:15:03] Yet make it sound like it was the part of the song

[00:15:05] So I was really intrigued by that idea

[00:15:07] So what's happening with this band now

[00:15:08] Is I say recording project

[00:15:09] But it's actually more of a creative exposition

[00:15:11] Right?

[00:15:12] Where I'm looking at trying to write songs

[00:15:13] Different

[00:15:14] And I'm like

[00:15:15] I'm going to try to write songs

[00:15:16] Different

[00:15:17] And I'm like

[00:15:18] I'm going to try to write songs

[00:15:19] Different

[00:15:20] I'm trying to write songs

[00:15:21] Different ways

[00:15:22] So Dan will come with ideas

[00:15:24] And then I have to kind of fix them

[00:15:25] And make them work and do that

[00:15:26] So it's been really awesome

[00:15:28] We don't

[00:15:29] We haven't practiced a lot

[00:15:31] Together

[00:15:32] But we spend a lot of time

[00:15:33] Figuring this stuff out

[00:15:34] And then when we do get to the room

[00:15:35] We're like wow

[00:15:36] It all just jelled together

[00:15:37] Do you record with Casey?

[00:15:38] Is that where you recorded it?

[00:15:39] Oh no not this

[00:15:40] Deadwell is with Dan

[00:15:41] Oh with Dan

[00:15:42] Yeah

[00:15:43] Okay

[00:15:44] Yeah and myself

[00:15:45] I have a studio in my basement

[00:15:46] Cool man

[00:15:47] Yeah

[00:15:48] I didn't even put that together

[00:15:49] I fucking love those guys

[00:15:50] I love Kingfisher

[00:15:51] Thanks man

[00:15:52] Great fucking

[00:15:53] Yeah they were just here like

[00:15:54] Four or five podcasts ago

[00:15:55] Yeah

[00:15:56] I couldn't make it

[00:15:57] So let me set out your other band Deadwell

[00:15:59] You want to go?

[00:16:00] I'm like yeah for sure

[00:16:01] Yeah that's cool

[00:16:02] You know what the funny thing is about Ottawa though

[00:16:03] It's just like

[00:16:04] There's a lot of interchange

[00:16:05] Not I shouldn't say interchangeable

[00:16:06] But interchanging

[00:16:07] Yeah

[00:16:08] Musicians and members throughout

[00:16:11] All of Ottawa bands

[00:16:12] In different corners

[00:16:13] Different scenes

[00:16:14] Because I find there's a whole bunch of different scenes in Ottawa

[00:16:16] And everybody kind of knows everybody

[00:16:18] And some people play in this band and this band and this band

[00:16:20] Because I've had like five different bands on

[00:16:24] And there's like hey you're back

[00:16:25] You know what I mean

[00:16:26] Like then I didn't even know

[00:16:27] And that's another one today

[00:16:28] There you go

[00:16:29] Kingfisher is a great example of that

[00:16:30] Yeah

[00:16:31] Like I've played in a band with someone

[00:16:33] Or at least one member from Kingfisher

[00:16:35] And Brent

[00:16:36] Oh Brent

[00:16:37] Yeah

[00:16:38] I've played in a band with every single person in Kingfisher

[00:16:40] At one point or another

[00:16:41] Yeah

[00:16:42] Yeah

[00:16:43] That's so funny man

[00:16:44] That's so funny

[00:16:45] Because again that's another kind of pocket of the scene

[00:16:47] Where it's like

[00:16:48] Last year I

[00:16:49] Like the younger more college kid scene

[00:16:52] And now I'm kind of moving

[00:16:53] Like Kingfisher and on and you guys and stuff

[00:16:55] And it's just like

[00:16:56] There's so many bands

[00:16:57] And it's such a small city

[00:16:58] And there's only so many places to play

[00:17:00] And it's amazing how many bands haven't heard of each other

[00:17:02] Like do you know this band

[00:17:03] They play like all the time

[00:17:04] They do this

[00:17:05] They've been together three years

[00:17:06] No, no never have

[00:17:07] Even though they were playing at the door next

[00:17:08] The door next door

[00:17:09] Yeah

[00:17:10] Yeah

[00:17:11] It's crazy

[00:17:12] So now that you're jamming

[00:17:13] I guess the goal is

[00:17:14] To play some shows or

[00:17:15] I think we really want to

[00:17:16] Yeah

[00:17:17] We're working towards it

[00:17:18] Yeah

[00:17:19] I think we need to write a couple more tunes

[00:17:20] Like we're pretty new

[00:17:21] I don't actually even know when we started but

[00:17:22] It's happening pretty quick though

[00:17:23] It's been over a year

[00:17:24] What

[00:17:25] Yeah

[00:17:26] How has it been over a year

[00:17:27] Because we get together so infrequently

[00:17:28] Well that's it

[00:17:29] Well I've only been around for

[00:17:30] I think probably six months ago

[00:17:31] When we had the first jam

[00:17:32] But I've only had like four jams

[00:17:33] With you guys five jams maybe

[00:17:34] Yeah

[00:17:35] It's funny man because we'll

[00:17:36] We'll have to figure out

[00:17:37] How many people are going to be there

[00:17:38] And how many people are going to be there

[00:17:39] And how many people are going to be there

[00:17:40] And how many people are going to be there

[00:17:41] So you guys five jams maybe

[00:17:42] Yeah

[00:17:43] It's funny man because we'll

[00:17:44] We'll get an idea together

[00:17:46] And then maybe I'll record a couple parts

[00:17:48] Or Mark will record a couple parts

[00:17:49] And then we'll be like

[00:17:50] Here Dan

[00:17:51] This is an idea of a song

[00:17:52] And then like next week

[00:17:53] Dan's like here you go

[00:17:54] It's an almost complete song

[00:17:55] You know

[00:17:56] Because he put his stamp on it

[00:17:57] Right

[00:17:58] So like Cody was saying

[00:17:59] It happens really quick

[00:18:00] Like this band is all people

[00:18:01] Who are very experienced

[00:18:02] And we've been doing this a long time

[00:18:03] I was going to say

[00:18:04] So we can do it really quick

[00:18:05] You know

[00:18:06] Definitely happening quick and moving along

[00:18:07] But it's experience too

[00:18:08] Right

[00:18:09] You've been through it before

[00:18:10] And you're like

[00:18:11] I'm not fucking around

[00:18:12] It's kind of like let's do

[00:18:13] Yeah

[00:18:14] Do the stuff that kind of makes sense

[00:18:15] You know you still have fun with it

[00:18:16] Yeah

[00:18:17] Whatever but

[00:18:18] Yeah

[00:18:19] But it's really effective though

[00:18:20] For the six times we've jammed

[00:18:21] We've written four songs

[00:18:22] And we did a full music video

[00:18:23] Yeah

[00:18:24] That's the thing

[00:18:25] Yeah

[00:18:26] I've never heard of any band doing that

[00:18:27] Yeah

[00:18:28] The story of my life

[00:18:29] That was the video right

[00:18:30] Yeah

[00:18:31] How did that come about

[00:18:32] How did you film it

[00:18:33] Casey from Kingfisher was saying

[00:18:34] That they filmed all the Kingfisher's videos on his phone

[00:18:36] Or is that right

[00:18:37] That's true

[00:18:38] More or less the same

[00:18:39] Zero budget

[00:18:40] Yeah

[00:18:41] So I took that same principle

[00:18:42] And I said hey Dan

[00:18:43] Dan's the renaissance man right

[00:18:44] He can do everything right

[00:18:45] That's why he plays bass in this band

[00:18:46] Because we needed a bass player

[00:18:47] I said hey Dan

[00:18:48] Can you make us a music video

[00:18:49] He was like yeah sure

[00:18:50] Oh by the way

[00:18:51] Zero budget

[00:18:52] Okay yeah no problem

[00:18:53] Zero budget

[00:18:54] Yeah

[00:18:55] I think you drafted the concept that day

[00:18:56] And then

[00:18:57] We did it

[00:18:58] We did it in four hours

[00:18:59] And that was it

[00:19:00] Yeah

[00:19:01] We showed up and then

[00:19:02] We had

[00:19:03] The idea

[00:19:04] Joe shows up in a janitor uniform

[00:19:05] We jam in my office

[00:19:06] And so

[00:19:07] That was the start

[00:19:08] So she shows up in a janitor uniform

[00:19:09] And we're like alright

[00:19:10] I'm a janitor

[00:19:11] You actually had Joe on the thing too

[00:19:12] Yeah

[00:19:13] Had a little button that said Joe

[00:19:14] Yeah

[00:19:15] That's right

[00:19:16] So we just

[00:19:17] No political campaign thing

[00:19:18] It's all about the details

[00:19:19] It's all about the realism

[00:19:20] Yeah

[00:19:21] So we just used all the camera gear at work

[00:19:22] And put something together

[00:19:23] And yeah

[00:19:24] I don't know

[00:19:25] That start to finish

[00:19:26] That was like three hours I think

[00:19:27] Three hours

[00:19:28] Yeah

[00:19:29] I mean editing for sure

[00:19:30] It took you all the time

[00:19:31] No it was one night

[00:19:32] Yeah it came together really fast

[00:19:33] Like we just

[00:19:34] We had a bio

[00:19:35] We had a bio

[00:19:36] Binder just like that

[00:19:37] Spiral binder

[00:19:38] And we just wrote down

[00:19:39] Like things we wanted Joe to do

[00:19:40] And then we just went around the building

[00:19:41] Filming him doing it

[00:19:42] And then we just kind of

[00:19:43] Jammed it all together

[00:19:44] And like each of us had a little cameo in there

[00:19:45] Yeah

[00:19:46] Like it was pretty organic

[00:19:47] No it's a cool video

[00:19:48] And if you look at the state of videos

[00:19:49] These days

[00:19:50] Like if you go back and look at like

[00:19:51] Videos from the 90s with explosions

[00:19:52] And car crashes

[00:19:53] And narratives

[00:19:54] And storylines

[00:19:55] And plots

[00:19:56] And budgets

[00:19:57] And budgets right

[00:19:58] It's like a mini movie

[00:19:59] That used to get a lot of attention

[00:20:00] And a lot of attention

[00:20:01] And a lot of attention

[00:20:02] And a lot of attention

[00:20:03] And a lot of attention

[00:20:04] And a lot of attention

[00:20:05] Like a mini movie

[00:20:06] That used to get like

[00:20:07] Oh and this one's directed by Robert

[00:20:08] Or um

[00:20:09] I don't know

[00:20:10] Whatever director you're thinking about

[00:20:11] Yeah it's how a lot of directors would cut their teeth

[00:20:12] You know

[00:20:13] Courtney Cox starred in this video

[00:20:14] And now it's just like

[00:20:15] Fuck I've seen videos that

[00:20:16] I swear to god

[00:20:17] It's one shot

[00:20:18] One continuous shot

[00:20:19] And it looks like shit

[00:20:20] But who cares right

[00:20:21] It's like

[00:20:22] I don't know

[00:20:23] There's so much

[00:20:24] There's so much content out there

[00:20:25] That even if you just watch half the video

[00:20:26] Just to see what the band looks like playing

[00:20:27] Or who's playing

[00:20:28] Or who's playing

[00:20:29] It's like

[00:20:30] I don't know

[00:20:31] There's so much

[00:20:32] There's so much content out there

[00:20:33] That even if you just watch half the video

[00:20:34] Just to see what the band looks like playing

[00:20:35] Or who's singing to you

[00:20:36] Or something like that

[00:20:37] I think that's the main purpose

[00:20:38] I don't think people live and die

[00:20:39] By the video anymore

[00:20:40] It's cool to have

[00:20:41] It's true

[00:20:42] I think the reason

[00:20:43] I think it's important

[00:20:44] Is because

[00:20:45] Like you just said it

[00:20:46] There's so much content out there

[00:20:47] So right now there's just

[00:20:48] I can't remember what the number was

[00:20:49] I read an article not long ago

[00:20:50] There's thousands of songs

[00:20:51] That get uploaded to Spotify every day

[00:20:52] Oh it's crazy

[00:20:53] Yeah

[00:20:54] So if you want people to hear

[00:20:55] What you're doing

[00:20:56] You almost have to like

[00:20:57] Full press

[00:20:58] Hit them with it

[00:20:59] So you need to have

[00:21:00] A promo campaign

[00:21:01] You need to have a video

[00:21:02] You need to do everything

[00:21:03] You need to have a platform

[00:21:04] And push it

[00:21:05] Push it

[00:21:06] Push it

[00:21:07] Right?

[00:21:08] So with Kingfisher

[00:21:09] When I relate to that

[00:21:10] We did

[00:21:11] We had a

[00:21:12] Let's call it a business plan

[00:21:13] Of putting one song out a month

[00:21:14] And it would get a full promo package

[00:21:15] It would get a cell phone video

[00:21:16] Every platform

[00:21:17] We'd push

[00:21:18] Push push

[00:21:19] I think we're a little different

[00:21:20] In this band

[00:21:21] We're not trying to push it as much

[00:21:22] But we have done that a little bit

[00:21:23] But man it's just so hard to get heard

[00:21:24] It's so hard to get heard

[00:21:25] Yeah it's crazy

[00:21:26] It's like

[00:21:27] It's a needle in a haystack really

[00:21:28] Yeah

[00:21:29] Like music nowadays

[00:21:30] Because it is so easy to

[00:21:31] I can go right now

[00:21:32] And I can go to a video

[00:21:33] Or something

[00:21:34] And upload myself fucking snoring

[00:21:35] And it's going to be up there

[00:21:36] Right?

[00:21:37] It's like content

[00:21:38] Yeah

[00:21:39] Yeah right

[00:21:40] But I understand

[00:21:41] Having a business plan

[00:21:42] Depending on where you want to go

[00:21:43] Or what you want to do

[00:21:44] To kind of get that

[00:21:45] To get it out there

[00:21:46] Just to have like the reach

[00:21:47] You're still

[00:21:48] But then you're still competing

[00:21:49] With all the people that are doing that

[00:21:50] You know what I mean?

[00:21:51] Yep

[00:21:52] But

[00:21:53] People listen to music

[00:21:54] On YouTube a lot nowadays too

[00:21:55] Right?

[00:21:56] So it's like if you're going to have

[00:21:57] Like

[00:21:58] You might as well have a video

[00:21:59] Up there

[00:22:00] Not just like

[00:22:01] 100%

[00:22:02] Yeah

[00:22:03] That's why I do a video

[00:22:04] On this podcast

[00:22:05] No I don't

[00:22:06] I figure watching like a cheap

[00:22:09] DIY video is better than watching

[00:22:11] Just someone's head talking to you

[00:22:12] So

[00:22:13] I'm not going to do a video

[00:22:14] But you're right

[00:22:15] You're right

[00:22:16] Spotify is usually the big one

[00:22:19] Or Apple podcasts or stuff

[00:22:20] But people always say

[00:22:21] Where can I listen to

[00:22:22] A podcast

[00:22:23] And I say

[00:22:24] I'd go to Spotify

[00:22:25] Me assuming like everybody listens to Spotify

[00:22:28] And they're like

[00:22:29] Oh

[00:22:30] You're going to listen to YouTube

[00:22:31] And it is now

[00:22:32] But back then I was like

[00:22:33] No

[00:22:34] They're like

[00:22:35] Yep

[00:22:36] You got to hit everything

[00:22:37] Then I'm not going to look for it

[00:22:38] You know

[00:22:39] And I'm like

[00:22:40] Okay

[00:22:41] Alright

[00:22:42] So yeah you got to

[00:22:43] Cover your bases I guess

[00:22:44] And you know

[00:22:45] I don't think anyone's trying

[00:22:46] To change the world

[00:22:47] With punk rock these days

[00:22:48] No

[00:22:49] But if you can get it out

[00:22:50] Far enough just

[00:22:51] You know

[00:22:52] To make it worth it

[00:22:53] And have people listen to it

[00:22:54] And get some response back

[00:22:55] And have people at your shows

[00:22:56] Yeah

[00:22:57] That's what it's all about

[00:22:58] You know

[00:23:00] How has playing music as older dudes

[00:23:06] Changed from how you played

[00:23:08] When you were younger

[00:23:09] Is the

[00:23:10] I know the drive is always there

[00:23:12] But like

[00:23:13] It's funny

[00:23:14] Cody and I were talking about this

[00:23:15] On the way over here

[00:23:16] A little bit

[00:23:17] Just in that

[00:23:19] The drive to be perfect

[00:23:22] Isn't there anymore

[00:23:23] When we were younger

[00:23:25] Shrugged with that a lot

[00:23:26] You want to put something out

[00:23:27] You feel like you have a lot riding on it

[00:23:28] And now

[00:23:29] It's like that weight is gone

[00:23:31] And we're just doing it

[00:23:32] Because we enjoy it

[00:23:33] And we keep coming back to it

[00:23:34] Right

[00:23:35] So

[00:23:36] I know me personally

[00:23:37] When I was younger

[00:23:38] I put a lot into it

[00:23:40] I went to school for music

[00:23:41] Like there was a lot

[00:23:42] It felt like it was always

[00:23:43] Like something more to it

[00:23:45] And that weight on me

[00:23:47] Whereas now

[00:23:48] My dad

[00:23:49] You know

[00:23:50] I don't rely on it for income

[00:23:51] Like there's all these other things

[00:23:52] Going on in my life

[00:23:53] And for me now

[00:23:55] Music is kind of like that

[00:23:56] Escape and that getaway

[00:23:57] And like

[00:23:58] That thing that I enjoy to do

[00:24:00] Right

[00:24:01] Whereas

[00:24:02] Because I also worked in the music industry

[00:24:03] For a while too

[00:24:04] Which can kind of

[00:24:05] Jade you a bit on stuff

[00:24:06] Right

[00:24:07] Like it's hard to work on music all day

[00:24:09] And then come home

[00:24:10] And want to play music too

[00:24:11] Right

[00:24:12] So it's like

[00:24:13] Yeah

[00:24:14] It's been an evolution for me

[00:24:15] For sure

[00:24:16] I mean

[00:24:17] Probably not exactly the same for you guys

[00:24:18] But

[00:24:19] I think also just like the organization

[00:24:20] Like we were talking about earlier

[00:24:21] With you know

[00:24:22] The fact that

[00:24:23] Well A

[00:24:24] Like we can all do

[00:24:25] Recording ourselves now

[00:24:26] And like we don't have to really rely on other people

[00:24:28] Whereas when I was younger

[00:24:29] Like we were kind of relying on other people

[00:24:31] To take care of a lot of that stuff

[00:24:32] And then

[00:24:33] But just

[00:24:34] We've got more experience

[00:24:35] So things

[00:24:36] Especially in this band

[00:24:37] Like what I found with these guys

[00:24:39] They're

[00:24:40] They're just like

[00:24:41] You know they get it done

[00:24:42] It's not like

[00:24:43] You have a song

[00:24:44] That you've been kind of kicking around

[00:24:45] For a while

[00:24:46] And you're not really sure how it ends

[00:24:47] It's like no no

[00:24:48] We're like

[00:24:49] Let's just hammer that song out

[00:24:50] Let's finish it

[00:24:51] It's good

[00:24:52] Let's put it out

[00:24:53] And let's move on to the next thing

[00:24:54] Like

[00:24:55] The video

[00:24:56] You know like

[00:24:57] Like literally I joined the band

[00:24:58] I had one jam

[00:24:59] And then they're like

[00:25:00] Alright so now we're gonna shoot a music video

[00:25:01] You in?

[00:25:02] And I'm like

[00:25:03] Awesome yeah cool

[00:25:04] Like I've never

[00:25:05] It's like

[00:25:06] So much more productive than any other project

[00:25:08] I've been a part of

[00:25:09] Just because

[00:25:10] You know

[00:25:11] It's just like

[00:25:12] Kind of have an idea

[00:25:13] Yeah yeah

[00:25:14] I think that comes with getting older too

[00:25:15] It's just like

[00:25:16] You kind of do away with the bullshit of it all

[00:25:17] And just be like

[00:25:18] You know

[00:25:19] You know what you gotta do

[00:25:20] So

[00:25:21] You know

[00:25:22] It's a good question for me

[00:25:23] Now

[00:25:24] I've been

[00:25:25] But I've been playing music hard

[00:25:26] For a long time

[00:25:27] And you know

[00:25:28] Been

[00:25:29] Had a lot of creative output

[00:25:30] Written a lot of songs

[00:25:31] I'm still chasing something

[00:25:32] I don't even know what it is

[00:25:33] Fair enough

[00:25:34] And I guess as I get older

[00:25:35] I get more content with that

[00:25:36] That there's just this mass confusion

[00:25:37] And all I know is

[00:25:38] I'm a creative person

[00:25:39] And I can't help it

[00:25:40] You said something earlier

[00:25:41] You said

[00:25:42] It doesn't matter what's around you

[00:25:43] If you're creative

[00:25:44] You're just

[00:25:45] Or producer of music

[00:25:46] You're just gonna do it

[00:25:47] It's just gonna do it

[00:25:48] I don't

[00:25:49] It would be no different for me

[00:25:50] You know

[00:25:51] Like you can put me anywhere in the world

[00:25:52] I'm just pushing out music

[00:25:53] And probably it's gonna be punk rock

[00:25:54] Or you know heavy rock

[00:25:55] Like what Dead Will is

[00:25:56] Right

[00:25:57] Yeah

[00:25:58] 100%

[00:25:59] And I think

[00:26:00] Sorry Mark

[00:26:01] Did you

[00:26:02] Yeah

[00:26:03] I know it's just kind of the same

[00:26:04] Minds as Joel

[00:26:05] Like I

[00:26:06] I'm always chasing a little something too

[00:26:07] I don't know exactly what it is

[00:26:08] But it's just

[00:26:09] Taking my hobby to the next level

[00:26:10] Yeah

[00:26:11] I love it

[00:26:12] It's a great output

[00:26:13] I don't think we'll ever know

[00:26:14] Cause I feel exactly the same way

[00:26:15] It's just like

[00:26:16] I think every young musician has that

[00:26:18] Thought in their head at some point

[00:26:19] Where you'd be like

[00:26:20] Wow this would be awesome

[00:26:21] You'd be like

[00:26:22] I'm gonna be a rock star

[00:26:23] I'm gonna make a living with this

[00:26:24] And then as you

[00:26:25] Kind of go through the trials and tribulations

[00:26:27] And you have some success

[00:26:28] But what is success?

[00:26:29] Maybe you tour a bit

[00:26:30] And then you kind of get older

[00:26:31] And your life happens

[00:26:32] And the kids come

[00:26:33] And the families and the career

[00:26:34] And you're like

[00:26:35] I'd like to retire someday

[00:26:36] But you still have music

[00:26:37] And I find that

[00:26:38] Where I am now

[00:26:39] Is I understand that chasing something

[00:26:40] Cause I still

[00:26:41] Every time I walk into a room

[00:26:42] And there's a guitar there

[00:26:43] Even if I don't touch it

[00:26:44] I'm looking at it

[00:26:45] You know what I mean

[00:26:46] It's a compulsive

[00:26:47] I wanna play it

[00:26:48] Yeah

[00:26:49] But I'm not gonna

[00:26:50] Yeah

[00:26:51] But I find that

[00:26:52] All those kind of

[00:26:53] Goals of like

[00:26:57] Making a living

[00:26:58] And doing it forever

[00:26:59] As you know being known

[00:27:01] Now that that's kind of at bay

[00:27:03] I'm actually having fun

[00:27:05] Like I don't worry about all that shit anymore

[00:27:07] It's just do it because

[00:27:09] It's there

[00:27:10] Cause you love it

[00:27:11] I can

[00:27:12] And that's when it's

[00:27:13] Now it's more fun now

[00:27:15] I think that's why I asked the question

[00:27:16] It's more fun now to me

[00:27:17] Than it was when I was younger

[00:27:18] Cause younger you're just

[00:27:19] You're all pants and everything

[00:27:20] You take everything so seriously sometimes

[00:27:22] I will say this

[00:27:24] You know I've been fortunate enough

[00:27:25] To know some people who

[00:27:26] Have had success in the music industry

[00:27:30] I can't think of one of them

[00:27:31] That's particularly happy

[00:27:32] To be honest

[00:27:33] Cause I think it's an illusion

[00:27:34] A lot of it right

[00:27:35] So

[00:27:36] It's like you think you want it

[00:27:37] You think you wanna be a particular way

[00:27:38] And it's not

[00:27:39] Like that

[00:27:40] I had one guy

[00:27:41] He's a pre-musician

[00:27:42] He tells me

[00:27:43] Joe you're the smartest

[00:27:44] Professional musician I know

[00:27:45] Cause you got a job

[00:27:47] You know

[00:27:48] I guess

[00:27:49] I get that too

[00:27:50] And if you think of the

[00:27:51] Landscape of music today

[00:27:52] The only way to really make money

[00:27:54] In a band is you have to tour

[00:27:56] Crazy life

[00:27:57] The last thing you wanna do

[00:27:58] Is be on the road

[00:27:59] For fucking

[00:28:00] Sleeping in someone's

[00:28:01] It's crazy

[00:28:02] Yeah it's a hard life

[00:28:03] It's a hard life man

[00:28:04] Cause there's no money

[00:28:05] You don't make money off music anymore

[00:28:06] Like selling records

[00:28:08] Or anything like that

[00:28:09] No

[00:28:10] It's merch at a show

[00:28:11] And whatever you get at the door

[00:28:12] Whatever turns out

[00:28:13] I met a very famous rock star once

[00:28:15] And I remember leaving

[00:28:16] Sort of hung out for a couple days

[00:28:18] And I'm not gonna say who it is

[00:28:19] But I remember leaving that

[00:28:20] Whole experience thinking

[00:28:21] That person

[00:28:22] Is just an expert hustler

[00:28:24] They have basically become

[00:28:25] A really really good hustler

[00:28:26] As time's gone on

[00:28:27] Because they have to

[00:28:28] Right?

[00:28:29] They have to

[00:28:30] You know

[00:28:31] Because man

[00:28:32] It's a real grind to do that

[00:28:33] You know

[00:28:34] Yeah

[00:28:35] And um

[00:28:36] Let's play a Deadwell song

[00:28:37] What do you guys wanna hear?

[00:28:38] What do you guys wanna play?

[00:28:39] I don't know

[00:28:40] Well we got what?

[00:28:41] Five songs

[00:28:42] So pick one of those

[00:28:44] Um

[00:28:45] Well it's your show

[00:28:46] You uh

[00:28:47] You rack it up

[00:28:48] Why don't we serve a release sir?

[00:28:51] A new release?

[00:28:52] A new song?

[00:28:56] How about All About You?

[00:28:57] I think that

[00:28:58] Yeah you said you like All About You

[00:28:59] Why don't we play that one

[00:29:00] Yeah yeah

[00:29:01] That's cool

[00:29:02] Okay this is Deadwell

[00:29:03] This is All About You

[00:29:04] Off of EP

[00:29:06] Right?

[00:29:07] Yep

[00:29:08] Off the EP EP

[00:29:09] I couldn't put self titled

[00:29:11] So I just put EP

[00:29:12] And yeah that's how it came out

[00:29:13] Speaks for itself

[00:29:14] Yeah there you go

[00:29:15] Alright

[00:29:16] Eagle and Vice

[00:29:42] She goes wrong

[00:29:43] They'll tell you that's the way it is

[00:29:47] Some people are above the law

[00:29:57] So look you in the eye

[00:29:58] And write on your face

[00:30:03] And why rules don't apply

[00:30:04] In any case

[00:30:06] You believe

[00:30:07] They'll tell you that's the way it is

[00:30:11] Some people are above the law

[00:30:14] You would never know it

[00:30:15] Cause I would never show it

[00:30:17] And I don't wanna blow it with you

[00:30:20] You take it all

[00:30:21] But you will never know

[00:30:23] How hard you are on those around you

[00:30:26] You're never going alone

[00:30:29] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:30:32] And I will never know it

[00:30:33] Cause you will never show it

[00:30:35] And everybody owes it to you

[00:30:41] It's only taking what she's entitled to

[00:30:47] It's that fact that she believes it through and through

[00:30:50] It's her song

[00:30:53] They'll tell you that's the way it is

[00:30:56] Some people are above the law

[00:30:59] There's a limit we can take of this

[00:31:02] So don't let it get to you

[00:31:04] Cause you're never going alone

[00:31:06] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:31:08] And I will never show it

[00:31:10] Somewhere there's a line we draw

[00:31:13] You'll never know it

[00:31:14] Cause I would never show it

[00:31:16] And I don't wanna blow it with you

[00:31:19] You take it all

[00:31:20] But you will never know

[00:31:22] How hard you are on those around you

[00:31:25] You're never going alone

[00:31:28] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:31:31] And I will never know it

[00:31:32] Cause you will never show it

[00:31:34] And everybody owes it to you

[00:31:40] They'll tell you that's the way it is

[00:31:42] Some people are above the law

[00:31:44] There's a limit we can take of this

[00:31:48] Somewhere there's a line we draw

[00:31:51] You never know it

[00:31:52] Cause I would never show it

[00:31:54] And I don't wanna blow it with you

[00:31:57] You take it all

[00:31:58] But you will never know

[00:31:59] How hard you are on those around you

[00:32:02] You're never going alone

[00:32:04] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:32:06] And I will never show it

[00:32:08] Cause you will never show it

[00:32:09] And everybody owes it to you

[00:32:12] You're never going alone

[00:32:15] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:32:17] And I will never know it

[00:32:18] Cause you will never show it

[00:32:20] And everybody owes it to you

[00:32:24] You're never going alone

[00:32:27] Never pick up the phone to call

[00:32:29] And I will never know it

[00:32:31] Cause you will never show it

[00:32:32] And everybody owes it to you

[00:32:38] So songwriting now, I know you were breaking down kind of how it's done and how the actual song is written.

[00:32:43] I always bring up this topic because I find it really interesting and I always, I guess because I'm older now,

[00:32:49] I always wonder because I have conversations with younger bands and I have conversation with older bands.

[00:32:54] How is the content or the writing like what do you write about nowadays?

[00:32:58] How was that different from when you were 20 years old and you wanted to burn the world down?

[00:33:03] Man, that's a hard question. I still want to burn the world down.

[00:33:08] Ah man, it's a for me, it's a passion of my life.

[00:33:13] And like so I just got a book and I'm reading it right now. It's called The Artist's Way.

[00:33:17] And it's all about instigating the sort of spiritual creative influences that are in you and recognizing that

[00:33:25] you're basically a volcano and the creative elements of you are waiting to explode.

[00:33:31] And it's like you spend your whole life building the filters that prevent it from exploding.

[00:33:35] You know, you reserve yourself, you filter yourself, you have too much caution.

[00:33:39] And then you have to actually come up with exercises and practice to remove those filters so that the volcano can explode.

[00:33:46] And then you'd be surprised what comes out because it's going to be a part of you and it's going to be the deepest part of you.

[00:33:51] You know, it's funny. So that book is really good, The Artist's Way. It's very famous.

[00:33:55] So for me, it's been this lifelong passion and I never know where the song is going to take me.

[00:33:59] I never know where the lyrics are going to take me.

[00:34:01] I like to try to be characters sometimes. Other times I like to be myself.

[00:34:05] I like to tell you a story, let you in the door and see who I am.

[00:34:09] I like to do third person narration and just look at pick one of them and then try to stay in that wheelhouse and write a song about it.

[00:34:17] Real quick, the way that I kind of describe a song is it's like writing a newspaper article.

[00:34:22] So the editor of the newspaper says to you, I've given you this much space and you have this many words that you're allowed to use.

[00:34:31] And I need you to tell me a very compelling story.

[00:34:34] And I want you to make it rhyme every third line. Go. Right.

[00:34:37] So now you give yourself that box and you have to do that.

[00:34:40] So songwriting to me is like my great passion.

[00:34:42] You know, aside from my family, I'll never stop writing songs and I'll never start stop chasing trying to just get better at that.

[00:34:48] Does that make sense?

[00:34:49] It totally does. And I understand the filters and stuff, because as you get older, like I said, when you're 20, you want to burn the world down and you'll fucking tell people, I'll burn the fucking world down.

[00:34:57] You're just blunt about it. Right.

[00:34:58] And then as you grow older, based off your situation, maybe your job, you just get a little bit more reserved, a little bit more closed in where you got to kind of watch what you're saying.

[00:35:08] Right. Because it's not just you. You're looking out for anymore.

[00:35:10] You want to ruin reputations of your workplace or family or anything.

[00:35:14] Fuck you. You know, all that shit.

[00:35:16] Yeah, I get it. And breaking those down and finding like a place that you can still tell a story is super interesting.

[00:35:22] I don't know. I just started.

[00:35:24] I never used to write about myself. Now I just write about like what like experiences, I guess.

[00:35:29] But that's what you have right in life.

[00:35:31] And I think everyone, the human condition, everyone goes through somewhat of the same experience in one way or another.

[00:35:39] And I think now it's just trying to almost relate to people through lyrics.

[00:35:43] You know, you write a story that's somewhat familiar.

[00:35:45] But then you find a really fucking great melody to make it fucking stick in your head.

[00:35:49] So yeah, man, I don't know.

[00:35:51] I just I find it harder as I get older.

[00:35:54] Just because I want to I don't want to come across as a fucking burn the world down kid.

[00:35:57] I want to come across like I want to tell a good story.

[00:36:00] Well, you need that book, The Artist's Way.

[00:36:02] Now I know what it is. Yeah.

[00:36:04] I'm going to fucking take a look at it and probably try to read it.

[00:36:07] I'll take extra ADHD medication.

[00:36:10] And I'll go a page at a time. Should take me about six months.

[00:36:13] So what's down the road?

[00:36:15] Like, what do you guys foresee with for 2024?

[00:36:19] What do you have some goals?

[00:36:20] You have some obviously do because you're very meticulous about how you do stuff.

[00:36:24] Yeah. Yes and no.

[00:36:25] I mean, I think there's definitely new tunes.

[00:36:27] I think that's really what we're working on now.

[00:36:29] We'd like to play a show.

[00:36:31] We haven't done that yet.

[00:36:32] So that would be a good thing to probably get on our belts at some point.

[00:36:36] But yeah, I think like songwriting and just creating music,

[00:36:41] I think is really where we're at right now.

[00:36:43] So for the short term, I think that's probably probably where we're headed.

[00:36:47] And then we don't have a lot of Dan keeps bugging us.

[00:36:50] He's like, we've got to jam more. We've got to practice more.

[00:36:52] Let's do it once a week.

[00:36:53] And we're like, man, we're so busy. We're so busy.

[00:36:55] Well, yeah, Joe has other bands he plays in right now.

[00:36:57] I don't have a whole lot on the go.

[00:36:59] So I don't I don't have a lot of opportunities to play.

[00:37:02] Whereas I was like, I jam six times this week.

[00:37:04] I'm good. Right.

[00:37:05] So I'm so tired.

[00:37:07] Yeah, yeah.

[00:37:09] So yeah, no, not at all.

[00:37:12] It's different.

[00:37:14] I like that.

[00:37:15] Well, like I said earlier, it's because it's it's an opportunity for me to use a different palette to create a different set of people,

[00:37:23] a different set of motivations and a different way of writing.

[00:37:26] So the more as an artist, I can get into sort of different pressure cookers.

[00:37:30] That helps me, you know, to be able to chase that thing I'm looking for.

[00:37:35] Gotcha.

[00:37:36] You know, which I don't know what it is.

[00:37:37] Well, does that make sense?

[00:37:38] Yeah, it's definitely the music.

[00:37:40] Dead Will, the music itself is it caught me because that's it's almost like I was saying to Brent.

[00:37:46] Mm hmm.

[00:37:47] It has that melody to it.

[00:37:48] It has that kind of that hookiness, that kind of it's it has a heaviness to it, but it's still like, you know, it stays with you kind of.

[00:37:57] You get that really deep, really melodic kind of chorus part.

[00:38:00] Oh, good. OK.

[00:38:01] And it is the relatable kind of feeling right.

[00:38:03] It's almost like this nostalgic music where it's like next summer I'll hear that song will pop on and remind me of this summer.

[00:38:11] Oh, good. That's really cool.

[00:38:12] And I love that kind of music.

[00:38:13] Thanks, man.

[00:38:14] I have I have other bands like that that have that kind of really awesome kind of it has the power.

[00:38:19] It has the kind of punk rock kind of rock.

[00:38:21] I wouldn't coin you guys punk rock like punk rock.

[00:38:24] There is some punk rock stuff in there, but yeah, that's fair.

[00:38:26] Yeah, that's fair.

[00:38:27] I think Spotify call us emo, right?

[00:38:29] Yeah, apparently we're emo.

[00:38:31] I don't know what does Spotify know?

[00:38:34] We didn't know how to process that.

[00:38:37] Yeah.

[00:38:38] Well, we got sad.

[00:38:40] Well, yeah.

[00:38:42] But one bit, one of the bands that came up when I was talking about that before was like Nothington.

[00:38:47] I really like the band.

[00:38:48] Have you ever heard the band Cold Years?

[00:38:49] No.

[00:38:50] Yeah, they're super.

[00:38:51] That's like my snowboarding soundtrack.

[00:38:53] Sweet.

[00:38:54] Because they have that same kind of like groove and that melody and just it sounds like you should check them out.

[00:38:59] I think they're really good.

[00:39:00] Cold Years, Cold Years.

[00:39:01] Yeah.

[00:39:04] OK, that's awesome.

[00:39:05] And I guess I guess before you play shows and stuff, you should have a set, right?

[00:39:09] Like, yeah, a good way to get in there.

[00:39:12] We could pull it off if we got a show right now.

[00:39:14] We could pull it off.

[00:39:15] We come up with something.

[00:39:16] Yeah.

[00:39:17] Yeah.

[00:39:18] Play a face to face song or something.

[00:39:19] There you go.

[00:39:20] Yes.

[00:39:21] Yeah.

[00:39:22] No, it's coming soon.

[00:39:23] Yeah.

[00:39:24] It's we're not rushing anything.

[00:39:25] We're just a bunch of dudes having fun.

[00:39:26] We're all busy with our lives and we like this band.

[00:39:29] We all like each other and it's really working.

[00:39:31] And it's just slow and organic.

[00:39:33] And that's why I say slow.

[00:39:34] It's not really actually.

[00:39:35] It's pretty fast given the amount of work we put in.

[00:39:37] But it's just organic.

[00:39:38] It's authentic.

[00:39:39] And really, man, that's checking all the boxes for me.

[00:39:41] Yeah, yeah, yeah.

[00:39:42] And that's awesome.

[00:39:43] And you find you find some guys that you enjoy playing with and you have a good time with.

[00:39:46] And you know, you write your own ticket.

[00:39:48] Totally.

[00:39:49] Set.

[00:39:50] You're set.

[00:39:51] OK.

[00:39:52] So that's it.

[00:39:53] I have a game.

[00:39:54] Oh, I guess before we play the game, is there any other things you guys want to talk about?

[00:39:59] Any shout outs, anything you wanted to say about the band?

[00:40:02] A whole lot.

[00:40:03] I mean, we're like little babies.

[00:40:06] Like we're still wearing band diapers here.

[00:40:08] Like we're not we don't have a whole lot of fresh.

[00:40:11] Yeah.

[00:40:12] I don't know.

[00:40:14] Mark's like, you guys want to do a podcast or like what are we going to talk about?

[00:40:20] We have five songs and we jam.

[00:40:22] They've all known each other for 10, 15 years.

[00:40:25] And I just met these guys already about five months ago.

[00:40:28] So so I'm still getting to know them.

[00:40:31] And I know Joe a little more, but it's yeah.

[00:40:34] Right on, man.

[00:40:35] Like Dan said, we're in diapers and we're slowly growing.

[00:40:39] Well, I'm super happy I got you this early in the band in the band world, because next year when you come back, we can listen.

[00:40:45] We can listen back to this and be like, remember when you guys came in?

[00:40:48] That's right.

[00:40:49] Yeah.

[00:40:50] Yeah.

[00:40:51] It's like, where's Mark?

[00:40:52] Oh, he realized we're all a bunch of dicks and he quit.

[00:40:54] Yeah.

[00:40:55] He was still feeling us out at that point.

[00:40:58] OK, I have a game it's called 13 Questions with the Band.

[00:41:03] Would you like to play?

[00:41:04] I need to ask consent.

[00:41:05] Absolutely.

[00:41:06] Yeah.

[00:41:07] Time for 13 questions with the band.

[00:41:10] Yes, this segment's back again.

[00:41:12] It's called 13 questions, but I only asked six, maybe five.

[00:41:16] So I'm going to break down the rules of 13 questions with the band.

[00:41:20] I have 13 questions.

[00:41:21] I don't actually ask you 13 questions.

[00:41:23] I pull from the 13 questions.

[00:41:25] Is everybody OK with these rules?

[00:41:27] It's cool.

[00:41:28] OK.

[00:41:29] And I can ask each of you.

[00:41:30] We'll try to go in like a rapid thing if someone has like a long winded story to tell off one of the questions.

[00:41:34] By all means, I'll just edit it out after.

[00:41:38] OK, 13 questions with Dead Will.

[00:41:40] My very first question is, let's see.

[00:41:44] What was the first CD tape or record you bought with your own money?

[00:41:50] The Beavis and Butthead Experience in 1993.

[00:41:56] Yeah, very nice.

[00:41:57] First CD I've ever owned.

[00:41:58] Yeah, I was 10 years old.

[00:41:59] That sounds good.

[00:42:00] And do you still have it?

[00:42:01] I do.

[00:42:02] Nice.

[00:42:03] I do.

[00:42:04] Yeah, it's broken, but yeah, it's still there.

[00:42:05] It's been through many a jewel case.

[00:42:07] Or is it a cassette?

[00:42:08] CD.

[00:42:09] CD.

[00:42:10] OK.

[00:42:11] Pretty sure mine was Bleach, Nirvana.

[00:42:12] Oh, classic.

[00:42:13] Mine was Evil Empire on cassette.

[00:42:16] The Rage Against the Machine.

[00:42:18] Rage.

[00:42:19] And I think I was Hum.

[00:42:20] You'd prefer an astronaut.

[00:42:22] Very nice.

[00:42:23] All right.

[00:42:24] Next question is Desert Island record.

[00:42:29] If you were stuck on a desert island tomorrow and you only had one record until they saved you, it could be 10 years.

[00:42:36] What would it be?

[00:42:37] What would you choose?

[00:42:38] Well, it's a lot of our genre.

[00:42:41] But it's a one hit wonder band.

[00:42:44] I absolutely love the CD.

[00:42:45] It's the refreshments, fizzy, fuzzy, big and buzzy.

[00:42:47] Oh yeah, that's awesome.

[00:42:48] It's absolutely amazing.

[00:42:49] Yeah.

[00:42:50] The only CD that I've played so much that I had to buy a second copy because I wore out.

[00:42:55] You wore out the CD.

[00:42:57] Yeah.

[00:42:58] I suck at this.

[00:42:59] I literally don't have an answer to this.

[00:43:01] My wife always gets at me because I never listen to the same thing twice in a row.

[00:43:06] Like I bounce around so much.

[00:43:08] I don't know if I could do this.

[00:43:10] This is a lot of pressure.

[00:43:11] We have a there's a 13 there's a 13 questions with the band back door.

[00:43:17] You just go same.

[00:43:20] Well, you know what?

[00:43:21] It is a good one because when he said it, I was nodding.

[00:43:23] Yeah, that's a solid choice.

[00:43:25] Let's go around.

[00:43:26] I'm going to think on this.

[00:43:27] I may pass, but let the other lads answer here.

[00:43:30] There's no passes.

[00:43:31] There's just savings.

[00:43:34] You can choose who you want to say.

[00:43:36] That's OK.

[00:43:37] Anyway, for me, it'd be a Macedon record for sure.

[00:43:39] Either either mission or Leviathan.

[00:43:42] I'll go Leviathan, I guess.

[00:43:45] That's very good.

[00:43:47] And I will go with Propagandi Victory Lap.

[00:43:50] You totally saw I was going Propagandi as well, but I was saying no, not that album.

[00:43:57] No, probably one of the earlier ones.

[00:44:03] Yeah, speaking of daddy.

[00:44:05] Go ahead.

[00:44:06] I was going to say speaking of dad rockers who got better with age propaganda, man.

[00:44:10] Yeah, no solid for sure.

[00:44:14] Same.

[00:44:17] Beautiful.

[00:44:18] Well done.

[00:44:19] OK, if you had a time machine and you could go to any moment in music history, where and what would it be?

[00:44:27] Oh, music history.

[00:44:30] OK, I would like to go to like a traditional Irish pub in the 1600s and just hear some actual trad Irish folk music the way it was back then.

[00:44:42] Have a nice warm pint.

[00:44:43] Oh, man.

[00:44:44] Yeah.

[00:44:45] Like I play in an Irish traditional Irish band and like we're really busy over St.

[00:44:48] Paddy's and stuff so I can play all those songs but they're all modernized.

[00:44:51] Yeah.

[00:44:52] I really, really get into like trad Irish stuff.

[00:44:54] So that's where I'd go.

[00:44:55] Very good.

[00:44:56] I'd say in early 90s, Lollapalooza.

[00:44:58] That's that's my era and that's that's my jam.

[00:45:02] I am.

[00:45:03] Yeah.

[00:45:04] Yeah, man.

[00:45:05] Minneapolis.

[00:45:06] I was in I saw Lollapalooza in 94.

[00:45:09] I believe it was Henry Rollins band.

[00:45:13] Cool.

[00:45:14] Jane's Addiction.

[00:45:15] Oh, man.

[00:45:16] It was crazy.

[00:45:17] Like I was young and it was like a festival.

[00:45:19] Anyway, sorry.

[00:45:21] I agree with you.

[00:45:22] That's where we go.

[00:45:23] Nineties were the best.

[00:45:24] Do you remember it?

[00:45:26] Remember, I know I was there.

[00:45:29] I have I have actual photographs of myself.

[00:45:32] Yeah.

[00:45:33] Yeah.

[00:45:34] I'm going to go with Queen Live Aid.

[00:45:37] Oh, yeah.

[00:45:38] Yeah.

[00:45:39] But only they're set and leave for.

[00:45:42] What about Phil Collins?

[00:45:43] No, he didn't like Phil Collins.

[00:45:46] You don't want to do sing along with Axl Rose.

[00:45:48] Yeah.

[00:45:50] I'm going to say with Mark 90s, the like like that era, 94 to 96,

[00:45:56] like just the records and the bands that were coming out then.

[00:45:59] I feel like it's cliche to say that, like, you know, everybody in there,

[00:46:02] they're growing up things that that was the best music.

[00:46:05] But like but you're right.

[00:46:06] But I'm right about the 90s.

[00:46:09] Yeah, it was crazy.

[00:46:11] We will be at band practice trying to practice our songs and get better.

[00:46:15] And Mark and Cody will start playing Silver Chair together.

[00:46:18] Yeah, it's if Mark's not here next time we come, that's the reason.

[00:46:21] Yeah.

[00:46:22] I hear the riff and I can't stop playing Silver Chair.

[00:46:26] Yeah.

[00:46:28] Silver Chair, the kids remember they're just kids.

[00:46:30] That was a big deal.

[00:46:31] These guys are how old?

[00:46:33] Yeah, they were like 14 or something when Frogstomp came out.

[00:46:36] It's crazy.

[00:46:38] The 90s, I always say I was saying that I never I haven't found

[00:46:42] music the same way I did in the 90s ever since.

[00:46:44] I still find music and I still listen to music, but it doesn't just doesn't.

[00:46:47] It's not the same.

[00:46:50] Anyway, what was the first live concert you ever attended?

[00:47:00] Who wants this one first?

[00:47:02] I'm pretty sure it was Bare Naked Ladies when they were like touring Gordon

[00:47:06] and I lived in Newmarket at the time.

[00:47:08] I think they were from around there.

[00:47:09] Like it was like it was like at the Newmarket Rec Center.

[00:47:12] It was like a smallish kind of thing.

[00:47:13] It's a good Canadian, Canadian outfit.

[00:47:19] Mine was my dad took me to see the Beach Boys in 1989 when they came to the Civic Center.

[00:47:24] Fucking cool, man.

[00:47:25] Kokomo.

[00:47:26] That's awesome.

[00:47:27] Right? The Kokomo Tour.

[00:47:28] That's it.

[00:47:29] I do remember that.

[00:47:30] I think I was six or something, but I do have a big memory, big recollection of it.

[00:47:35] In May there's a on Disney Plus, there's a Beach Boys movie coming out.

[00:47:39] There's a trailer.

[00:47:40] It looks fucking really good.

[00:47:41] I don't know if you guys with the riptides and stuff, Beach Boys, Ramones, that kind

[00:47:45] of stuff is very, very influential to the pop punk of what we do there.

[00:47:49] So Beach Boys is a big one.

[00:47:50] The movie looks good.

[00:47:52] Looks really good if you're into that kind of thing.

[00:47:54] A lot of history there.

[00:47:55] Yeah, yeah, totally.

[00:47:56] Totally Brian Wilson's wicked.

[00:47:58] Yeah.

[00:48:00] Dan's up.

[00:48:01] Yeah, I do remember now it was my parents.

[00:48:04] My parents play in a band and that was the first show that I ever saw.

[00:48:08] Do you know what the band was called?

[00:48:10] Red Tape.

[00:48:11] Red Tape.

[00:48:12] They still play and they've been together longer than I've been alive, so 45, 50

[00:48:17] years as they've been around.

[00:48:19] They started out as like 60s rock covers and they played all the school dances

[00:48:24] and everything and all that.

[00:48:26] And they're still playing today.

[00:48:28] Nice.

[00:48:29] That's awesome.

[00:48:30] And mine was Aerosmith or Collective Soul Open for them at Lansdowne Park.

[00:48:35] Cool.

[00:48:36] And yeah, it was like when Aerosmith had their big comeback in the 90s there, you

[00:48:39] know, get a grip, right?

[00:48:41] They were friggin' awesome.

[00:48:43] The show they put on, oh my God, man.

[00:48:45] Yeah, no doubt.

[00:48:46] So I was just a little kid, right?

[00:48:47] I remember that.

[00:48:48] Yeah, yeah.

[00:48:49] I just saw a thing on the internet where they're doing their final tour.

[00:48:53] Are they?

[00:48:54] Steve Tyler's like on top of a piano.

[00:48:56] He's like mid 70s, right?

[00:48:58] Yeah.

[00:48:59] Still got the scarves and the hair.

[00:49:00] Yeah.

[00:49:01] Wow!

[00:49:02] Man, don't you think that's a good thing?

[00:49:05] Man, those guys, for the shit they did to themselves.

[00:49:09] Joe Perry, Joe Perry, right?

[00:49:11] Yeah, the toxic twins.

[00:49:12] Yeah, Steve Tyler, it's amazing that anyone would have said Aerosmith will be in their

[00:49:17] 70s touring.

[00:49:18] Yeah.

[00:49:19] Steve Tyler will be on top of a piano.

[00:49:21] Right?

[00:49:22] Who's the girl that, the same girl that was always in all her videos, Alicia?

[00:49:26] Silverstone, yeah.

[00:49:27] Yeah, back in the 90s, man.

[00:49:29] Yeah.

[00:49:30] Where are they now?

[00:49:32] She peaked with Batgirl.

[00:49:33] Yeah, yeah.

[00:49:34] Where is she now?

[00:49:35] Yeah, good question.

[00:49:36] Okay, a couple more.

[00:49:39] If you could, oh wait, if Dead Well could open for any band.

[00:49:46] Who would it be?

[00:49:49] Dan's got one.

[00:49:50] Dan wants the mic.

[00:49:51] Dan's reaching for the mic.

[00:49:52] Prop candy would be my pick, for sure.

[00:49:53] You want to open for Prop?

[00:49:54] Yeah.

[00:49:55] I don't know.

[00:49:56] I just like those guys.

[00:49:57] Like that's probably the man I've seen the most of all bands, period.

[00:50:00] They're so good.

[00:50:01] They're just always fun, fun shows.

[00:50:03] Yeah.

[00:50:04] Yeah.

[00:50:05] Cool.

[00:50:06] Everyone agree with that?

[00:50:08] Yeah, I'm gonna say him.

[00:50:09] Same.

[00:50:10] I'm gonna say, so I look at Dead Well as a rock band, right?

[00:50:15] So I like, you know, I play in punk bands too, right?

[00:50:17] But I like what we're doing, but it's a little bit more, let's maybe commercialize the word a little bit.

[00:50:22] I think that if, like, if we open for Billy Talent, that would be amazing.

[00:50:26] Because I do really like Billy Talent.

[00:50:28] I think they got a lot of punk rock roots, but they are sort of a rock band, right?

[00:50:31] And I think that we fit in that kind of vein.

[00:50:33] You know what?

[00:50:34] I don't think there's anything wrong with being a rock band.

[00:50:37] You know what I mean?

[00:50:38] Everyone wants to be like, I'm pop, punk, emo, noise.

[00:50:42] It's just like, I'm a rock band.

[00:50:44] Yeah.

[00:50:45] I play rock and roll.

[00:50:46] We definitely have punk influences.

[00:50:47] I also wasn't implying that we would be a good fit to open for Prop.

[00:50:50] Yeah, I think Propagetti would yell at us.

[00:50:52] Like, get off the stage.

[00:50:54] What are you guys talking about?

[00:50:55] Right.

[00:50:57] Okay.

[00:50:59] Next question, two more questions.

[00:51:01] If each of you, this is for each of you, could have a drink or a meal or something with any musician, live or dead, who would it be?

[00:51:14] For me it would be David Gilmore, Pink Floyd.

[00:51:16] Huge influence on me.

[00:51:18] Who?

[00:51:19] Playing, everything.

[00:51:20] I love his stuff.

[00:51:21] Hands down.

[00:51:24] Yeah, I'm going to go off of the board on this one.

[00:51:26] I'm going to say Bach, assuming he had a translator.

[00:51:30] Because I don't speak German.

[00:51:31] Sebastian Bach?

[00:51:32] Yeah.

[00:51:33] Yeah, no, because so I'm a bit of a nerd and he combined math and music kind of in a way that hasn't really been done to that extent before.

[00:51:50] I suspect he's probably kind of on the spectrum if you actually talk to him, but I think he'd be fascinating to talk to you.

[00:51:58] Because he pioneered an entire genre and the way he approached counterpoint and melody was very methodical.

[00:52:08] And I'm very much like that, like I kind of gravitate towards order.

[00:52:12] So yeah, I think I'd get a lot out of that conversation.

[00:52:15] Cool man.

[00:52:16] Digging deep into the deep cuts.

[00:52:19] Cody?

[00:52:20] This is a tough question.

[00:52:24] I don't know.

[00:52:25] I mean, who would be cool?

[00:52:27] I mean, somebody like maybe like Maynard James Keenan or something like that would be cool to have a beer with.

[00:52:34] Or he'd be a complete dick.

[00:52:36] Yeah, you never know what he's like.

[00:52:39] Jiu-jitsu on you.

[00:52:40] Yeah, that's it.

[00:52:41] Well, we'd have some stuff to talk about.

[00:52:43] He just got his black belt apparently.

[00:52:45] He's legit, but I think that would be mine.

[00:52:47] Cool.

[00:52:48] I would be Bruce Springsteen.

[00:52:50] Oh, the boss, man.

[00:52:51] The boss, yeah.

[00:52:52] I don't have many records, but half of them are Bruce Springsteen.

[00:52:55] The best.

[00:52:56] The best, right?

[00:52:57] The best.

[00:52:58] I appreciate that.

[00:53:00] I appreciate that.

[00:53:01] Okay, the last question of 13 questions with the band with Deadwell.

[00:53:06] Who is Deadwell?

[00:53:07] Like how do we come up with a name?

[00:53:14] I think it's an open-ended whatever you want type question.

[00:53:17] Yeah, you can answer it any way you want.

[00:53:21] It's just something to do.

[00:53:22] It's fun.

[00:53:23] I don't know if there's a whole lot of weight behind it.

[00:53:26] The origin story of the name is interesting.

[00:53:29] It's worth telling probably.

[00:53:31] Yeah, yeah, there you go.

[00:53:32] Yeah, it's nothing amazing or anything, but it's because I fish with my friends and up to the cottage one day we do a weekend every year.

[00:53:42] And we're terrible fishermen.

[00:53:43] We just end up drinking more.

[00:53:45] And there's a live well on my boat and we don't always fill it up.

[00:53:51] And then we drink at night and we laugh about how little fish we catch.

[00:53:55] And then we call it a Deadwell.

[00:53:57] And we just kind of ran with that joke.

[00:53:59] And then now we created a logo.

[00:54:01] My friends are like, well, you should call your band that.

[00:54:03] And I kind of floated the idea with these guys and they're like, yeah, let's do it.

[00:54:06] So as soon as he says, do you want to call the band Deadwell?

[00:54:09] I'm like, that's amazing because to me in my life, music has been a dead well.

[00:54:13] So I'm like, yep, exactly.

[00:54:17] I'm like, I will never stop fishing.

[00:54:19] I love it so much.

[00:54:20] I love just being an artist and being creative.

[00:54:22] But if I'm looking at anything, making any money or anything out of this man, I'm playing the wrong game.

[00:54:28] Right. So yeah.

[00:54:29] So as soon as he said, I was like, yeah, that's the name.

[00:54:31] That's the band name.

[00:54:32] Love origin stories.

[00:54:35] It's always great to meet guys that I have a lot in common with, not just music, just kind of stages of life.

[00:54:43] And love the dead well story.

[00:54:46] That's cool.

[00:54:47] I love the fish and that's rock and roll rock and roll.

[00:54:50] Thank you so much for being on the show.

[00:54:52] And I wish you nothing but success and good luck writing the record, I guess.

[00:54:57] Thanks, buddy. Maybe we'll see on stage sometime.

[00:54:59] Yeah. Yeah.

[00:55:00] What tour is that? Yeah.

[00:55:01] And hopefully we'll see all four year next year.

[00:55:03] Even more. That's right.

[00:55:06] All right. Thanks a lot.

[00:55:07] Yeah. Cheers.

[00:55:33] I'm going to do.

[00:55:37] The days gone by when everybody knew the easy way was a lie and life was without comfort.

[00:55:49] It's just the way it was.

[00:55:52] Principles in the forefront.

[00:55:55] Living for a cause.

[00:56:01] Can't we all see.

[00:56:04] Some of parts and the ways and means to break the cycles and principles embedded in our hearts.

[00:56:16] It takes a spark and a fire to instigate emotion.

[00:56:22] Freedom from oppression.

[00:56:24] Not our lives.

[00:56:26] All the humans.

[00:56:58] Fight.

[00:57:00] Fight hard.

[00:57:02] For the oppressed.

[00:57:04] Right.

[00:57:06] People.

[00:57:08] People.

[00:57:13] Let me elaborate.

[00:57:15] It's.

[00:57:19] It's.

[00:57:23] Just don't care anymore.

[00:57:25] Until it directly impacts.

[00:57:29] The quality of life.

[00:57:31] Come to expect.

[00:57:35] Empathic heart.

[00:57:37] Means weakness.

[00:57:39] Compromise our virtues.

[00:57:41] Stirring out our bones.

[00:57:43] Look inside our heads.

[00:57:45] All in burning beds.

[00:57:51] Remember that old song.

[00:58:13] Remember that old song.

[00:58:21] Remember that old song.

[00:58:27] Remember that old song.

[00:58:43] I'm sharing some time in here.

[00:59:21] Thanks a lot.

[00:59:37] I'm a man.

[00:59:41] Spend my nights drinking with my mates.

[00:59:45] Just a short bus ride up to P.A.

[00:59:49] Red River, red.

[00:59:53] Then I hit the wall and I knew I had to bounce.

[00:59:57] They still say that?

[00:59:59] Nineteen years ago,

[01:00:01] I felt like I'd got the hill out.

[01:00:03] From time to time, you may see me hanging around them.

[01:00:09] Now I feel like a stranger in this town.

[01:00:17] Cracks and rolls is where I learn to play.

[01:00:19] Westwood Tavern is where I learn to walk away.

[01:00:33] I'm a man.

[01:00:35] Spend my nights drinking with my mates.

[01:00:37] It's all good.

[01:00:39] Anyway, we'll see you next week.

[01:00:41] Bye.
